Diet to Clean Heart Arteries

There are many things that can contribute to the buildup of plaque within our arteries. This does not occur overnight but instead is due to a lifetime of eating the wrong types of food, lack of exercise and for some, smoking and drinking. Clearing the arteries can be a slow process but if you take a few steps it can be done. When the pipes in your home plumbing get clogged, you clean them. Our bodies are no different, but it will take a lifestyle change and a lot of will power.

Avoid Fried Foods

The No. 1 thing that must be done when changing to a diet that is healthy for your heart is to give up fried foods. Fried foods contain an extremely unhealthy level of trans fatty acids. Switch from unhealthy fried foods to foods that are rich in good fats. For the most part, you should switch to raw or baked items. Low-cost vegetable oils are also bad fats. Switch to oils that contain healthy fats such as olive oil. These can be used in place of the vegetable oil that you normally use and it adds much more flavor.

Fiber

Eating high fiber foods is the best thing you can do for your heart. You should increase your daily fiber intake by approxmately 25 percent. Add whole grain bread to your diet, replace white bread with whole grain. Beans are a great source of fiber and are loaded with vitamins and minerals, they fill you up and are excellent for heart health. Beans are low on the glycemic index so they are a healthy food for diabetics as well. Add a few cups of beans to your diet every day.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

The closer you get to nature with your food, the better it is for you. Eat salad for lunch and snack on raw carrots or cucumbers. Choose fresh fruit for a snack over cookies and ice cream and drink fresh juice to help unclog your arteries. The best juices to choose are grapefruit, pineapple, grape, lemon and vegetable juice.
