Healthy Diet Drinks

One great way to help a diet succeed is to keep yourself hydrated. Although some of your daily fluid needs are obtained from foods, it is difficult to get enough from eating alone unless you eat a whole lot. Because you are trying to diet, you will want to hydrate with either the least amount of calories, or with the most nutrition per calorie possible.

Water

If you drink enough of the right kind of fluids, your body is able to shed water and maintain a good balance of minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. These are all important parts of weight loss and hunger control. Proper hydration helps your body absorb nutrients and digest foods more efficiently. You must drink fluids that your body can synthesize into water. Obviously the easiest, and most healthy, way to get water is to drink plain water. Whether you prefer tap or bottled water, this fluid is extremely important to your health, especially when dieting.

Added Benefits

If you do not care for the taste of water, or become bored easily drinking the same thing, the next healthy thing you can do is add a little squeeze of fruit juice to your water. It is best to obtain this from a fresh piece of fruit, such as lemon, orange, peach or grapes. You only have to add a little bit to change the taste. Apple cider vinegar has many reported health benefits and can be added with a little cayenne pepper or garlic to spice up your water. If you like your water cold, you can make fruit ice cubes and use them in your water.

Veggies and Fruit

Vegetable and juices are a healthy way to get fluids and necessary vitamins and minerals too. Whether you prefer to purchase tomato juice already prepared, or squeeze your own, your body will gain valuable fluid and nutrition. If you are purchasing fruit juice, make sure it is 100 percent juice, so you don't fill up on empty sugar calories. You may decide to go one step further and buy a juice machine to make your own juices. There are hundreds of healthy and tasty vegetable juice recipes. There are also diets that rely mainly upon juice concoctions to replace one or two meals a day.

Milk and Substitutes

Drinking milk is another healthy way to gain nutrients and fluids at the same time. Many folks overlook this drink when thinking of healthy ways to increase fluid intake. Skim milk has few calories, no fat and a lot of necessary vitamins and minerals like calcium and potassium. By adding protein powder or purchased diet shake mix, you can add enough calories to replace a meal. If you are sensitive to cow's milk, there are many alternatives -- soy, rice and almond milk are easily found at most grocery stores.

Drink for Your Health

Liquids fill you up with less volume than solids, so your hunger is satisfied, and you are able to reduce calories. Unless your choice of drink is plain water, you will need to take these added calories into account. Also if you gain certain nutrition from the drink, you can eliminate a portion of solid food. Keep in mind that if your drink contains caffeine, it will provide a reduced amount of hydration than the actual size of the drink.
