For acid reflux, you only have to fast from acid-based foods. Typically, our acid to base ratio is 70 percent base to 30 percent acid. When the percentages start to change, with the acid gaining, the result is acid reflux.

Controlling Acid Reflux
- 1
The main reason people get acid reflux is because there is too much acid in their diet and not enough alkaline-based foods. Acid-based foods consist of tomatoes, citrus, chocolate, alcohol, fried foods, and most meats. Throw out everything that is acid-based.
2Start eating base-related foods to balance your acid/base ratio. They include vegetables, rice, cottage cheese, yogurt and beans. These foods do not cause acid. Thus, they are recommended while fasting from acidic foods.
3Fasting from acidic foods is an excellent start to controlling acid reflux, but it is also suggested that you exercise to help balance your acid/alkaline ratio. Exercising will help you control acid reflux easier.
