Liquid Fruit Diet

Liquid fruit diets are often used for two- or three-day methods of body detoxification, rather than actual, ongoing diets. These are attractive alternatives for people who love the taste of sweet juice. Commonly used fruits like citrus and berries not only provide a plethora of health benefits, their high fiber content helps keep you full throughout the day. Keep in mind that with any diet, you should discuss the risks with your doctor and make sure you are healthy enough to participate.

Juice for Detox

Juice detoxification helps your body release toxic residual in the colon and fat cells of your body. When these toxins are released and flushed out of your system, you feel greater levels of energy and improved mental focus, and your body benefits from a boosted immune system.
A true juice diet will replace every meal with juice and water exclusively. Some so-called juice diets prescribe protein supplements with the juice. This is a beneficial supplement, however still a protein that your body must break down and therefore it does not belong on a strict juice diet. Without any protein in the diet, your liver and kidneys are able to remove the toxins more efficiently.
It is possible to use store-bought juice for your juice diet but this may not be ideal. Consider the content of the juice you consume.

Fresh vs. Not

Most juice purchased at the supermarket contains more than juice alone. Read the label to detect sweeteners, coloring and preservatives. These are not ideal for detoxing or losing weight.
If you do buy a product of 100 percent juice that claims to be "freshly squeezed," keep in mind that once juice is squeezed from the fruit, nutritional value degenerates quickly. The best juice is squeezed and consumed immediately. If you are unable to squeeze and drink, use an airtight container to keep the juice as fresh a possible.

The Process

The rules of a juice diet are fairly simple. Avoid juices with artificial sweeteners and preservatives. It is okay to consume a lot of juice. It is also important to consume water to help maintain the electrolyte balance in your body. An imbalance of electrolytes may cause your body to start shutting down organs or go into shock. Consume no more than 2 to 3L of liquid per day including water and juice to keep your body in balance.
Since you are replacing food with juice, enjoy a variety of fruits high in fiber. When squeezed fresh, some of the fiber (pulp) ends up in the juice to reduce the intensity of hunger pangs. A good mixture of fruits to use are: pineapple, oranges, apples, mango, guavas, peaches and plums.
Remember that when toxins are released, you may feel worse until they are flushed from your system. Get lots of rest and only do a fruit juice diet when you don't have days filled with obligations.
