Quick Weight Loss Tricks

Everyone wants to lose weight quickly, but it is, of course, easier said than done. There are many ways to lose weight quickly (or at least look like you have) for an upcoming special event, such a wedding or class reunion. These tricks are neither costly nor time-consuming.

Stand Tall

It's amazing what good posture can do to make you look thinner. Stand tall and imagine there is a string pulling your head up toward the ceiling. Your neck should feel longer. Raise your head so you are looking forward, rather than pointing your chin at your chest. Pull your shoulders down and back, as if you were trying to hold a pencil between your shoulder blades. Hold your stomach in. When you walk, lead with your chest for a more regal, graceful pace. Look in the mirror and see how much thinner you look.

Wear Clothes That Fit

Although we all want to wear the latest styles, sometimes they are just not right for our body type. Take the time to choose clothes that fit you and are flattering to you as you are now. Don't squeeze yourself into a size 6 when you are really an 8 or a 10--orr wear a 14 if you are really a 12, thinking it will cover figure flaws. Clothes that are too tight make you look like a stuffed sausage. Those that are too loose make you look sloppy.

Also consider colors and patterns. Wear dark colors to minimize problem areas and lighter, brighter colors and patterns to play up your assets. Use jewelry to frame your face and draw attention away from a thick waist or broad hips.Wear higher heels to make your legs look longer and thinner.

Undergarments

There are many choices in undergarments that really can help you look thinner instantly. These are not those uncomfortable girdles your grandmother used to wear, either. Many of them are downright sexy. Try on several to see which look and fit best.

Exercise

Good posture and properly fitting clothing will help you look thinner. If you really want to lose weight, you will have to ramp up your diet and exercise regimen. If you already exercise the recommended 30 minutes a day, try going for 60 minutes each day instead, and increase the intensity: Jog instead of walk, run instead of jog. Be careful to stay within your limits, to avoid injury. Exercise every day for faster weight loss.

Diet

If you are trying to lose weight for a special event, cut out eating between meals until that event. At meal time, use a smaller plate (such as a salad or bread plate) and limit yourself to one serving. Avoid added sugar, salt and fats. Drink lots of water to help you flush fat from your body.

Warnings

If you have diabetes or any other chronic medical problem, consult a doctor or nutritionist before attempting any weight loss program, especially for quick weight loss.

A weight loss of one to two pounds per week is considered optimal for permanent weight loss beyond the first week. The first 5-lb. loss is most likely to be water and will come off quickly. Beyond that point, faster weight loss may trigger health problems and yo-yo dieting syndrome in which you quickly gain those pounds back.

Avoid weight loss pills, which may have unpleasant side effects such as insomnia and irritability. Once you stop taking them, any lost pounds are likely to return.
