Foods That Neutralize Stomach Acid

Foods That Neutralize Stomach Acid

Acid, when there's too much in the stomach, impairs digestion. You have not taken the care to eat the good foods that balance acid. When careless eating overloads the stomach with acid, you get indigestion. This discomforting condition makes any day worse, and for the stressed eaters, can lead to the pain of heartburn or an ulcer.

A Healthy Diet

Good digestion depends on a good balance in your diet. Eating fatty foods that overwork the digestive system or too many citric acid-rich plums and oranges keeps the diet in a constant imbalance. What every person needs is the balance in meats, grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables that keeps her stomach working at its best.

Acid and Alkaline Balance

Foods come in three types, acidic, alkaline and neutral. The key to a balanced diet that keeps the stomach calm, yet potent, is the balance in these three types. When you have acid indigestion, adding alkaline foods and making neutral foods a significant part of your diet can restore a good balance.

The Neutralizers

Most fruits and vegetables raise the alkaline in your digestive balance. Bananas and potatoes settle the stomach's juices extraordinarily well. Eating these foods will neutralize the excess acid in your stomach. Oils and honey are in the neutral category. A moderate amount of these foods will help you complete a healthy diet. Just avoid fruits and vegetables known for the rich acid in their juices.

The Good Food Kind

Can you eat the selected fruits and vegetables in any kind of form? No. Natural and raw, or lightly cooked, will give you the alkaline you want to neutralize acid. Strong cooking weakens the alkaline. Also, recipes made with these fruits and vegetables can even be acidic. Fruit jam is in the acidic category. Unless you know your prepared foods well, count on the natural fruits and vegetables.

Eating The Good Way

Any sensible person knows that anything carried to excess turns bad. This common sense holds true with acidic balance. Be careful not to overdo an attempt to neutralize acid with alkaline foods. Too much food of any type is unhealthy. Changing your diet to one full of fruits and vegetables will not make your digestion stable when you overload the stomach by eating large meals quickly, especially late in the day. You might overwork the stomach. Eat your fruits and vegetables in small to moderate amounts, and give yourself the time to digest well.
