Acid reflux is a condition that occurs when the acid from the stomach that is used to digest food flows back into the esophagus. It causes an unpleasant taste in the mouth and a burning sensation that radiates from the stomach all around to the chest and back. If you find it hard to breathe when laying in bed, experience a sudden onset of snoring while sleeping, or notice wheezing or difficulty swallowing, you may have an acid reflux problem. You can control many cases without prescription medication.
Instructions
- 1
Watch your diet. Consuming fatty foods or heavily fried foods, especially at night, can produce heartburn or other symptoms of acid reflux. Cut them out or at least cut down. Lose weight if you are more than 10 pounds overweight. The heavier you are the more likely it is that you will have problems such as acid reflux.
2Eat smaller meals a few times a day. Eating smaller meals means that the digestive tract does not have to work as hard and it produces less acid. Eat your last meal at least 6 hours before bedtime. This is especially true if you are having severe night symptoms or difficulty when you lay down.
3Mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and cup of cold water. Drink this with meals at least twice a day.
4Swallow one ginger root capsule immediately after dinner each evening. Follow this by thoroughly chewing teaspoon of fennel seeds.
5Add 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds to a cup of water and stir thoroughly. Drink this no more than once a day after a meal.
6Drink 6 cups of water daily. Coconut water is even better than regular water for the digestion.
7Drink milk or mint juice after eating or when the onset of acid reflux occurs. Chewing a piece of clove also helps reduce the bloated feeling after a meal.
