Acid reflux is a condition that causes stomach acid to regurgitate from the stomach into the throat and mouth of a person. This uncomfortable condition can last throughout a lifetime if left untreated and can lead to the person having other complications, including tooth decay.
Instructions
- 1
Speak to your dentist. Schedule a full dental exam to see what type of condition that your teeth are in. If the dentist relays that you have multiple cavities in your mouth since the last check up that may be indicative of acid reflux damage.
2See a doctor about getting your acid reflux under control. Your family doctor or a gastroenterologist can run series of tests as a way to diagnose your acid reflux.
3Begin taking medications for acid reflux. Most likely, the doctor is going to give you reflux controlling medications. Brand names of acid reflux medications include Prevacid and Nexium.
4Visit the dentist again after treatment. Make an appointment with your dentist after your acid reflux is under control. If he notes a reduction in cavities, then you can deduce that the previous tooth decay was caused by the reflux.
5Take care of your teeth in order to avoid future cavities. Although the acid reflux being under control can reduce cavities, you must still practice good hygiene. Brush and floss on a regular basis.
