A 2 week detox diet can include a detoxification of important body organs, including the liver, bowel, colon and bladder. These systems help to cleanse and eliminate waste that accumulates from ingested foods, chemicals and toxins. When chemicals, toxins and impacted waste build up in the body it can cause intestinal problems, fatigue, illness and disease.
Fasting
According to HealthRecipes.com, herbs stimulate organs and aid in the natural detox process. These organs include the bowel, bladder and liver. Cleansing these organs is an important element in any detox diet. Water works to flush toxins from the system as they are discharged.
Start your detox program by drinking at least 8 8-ounce glasses of purified water over a 2-day period. Add 2 tbsp of lemon or lime, and a tbsp of maple syrup to add sweetness and encourage bowel movement. Include herbal teas that contain dandelion root, ginger and tumeric to clean the bladder. Try barberry tea to help cleanse the liver and lemongrass or chamomile tea to cleanse the bowel. Consume 4- to 6-cups of tea daily for overall body cleansing. Peppermint tea acts as a stimulant and should be ingested early in the day. Alternate teas throughout the day to encourage elimination and body cleansing.
Juice
Because pure fruit and vegetable juices contain high levels of minerals, vitamins, amino acids and enzymes, they provide optimal nutrition while flushing toxins from the body. Add pure fruit and vegetable juices to your diet after the 2 to 3 day detoxing fast. Use a juicer to make fresh juice from fiber rich vegetables such as broccoli, garlic, onions, turnips, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots and celery. These foods will help the bowel to eliminate impacted material and toxic accumulation, and clean the liver and gallbladder as well. Juice water and vitamin rich fruits such as watermelon, grapes, pears, apples, pineapple, berries and bananas to cleanse the bladder, liver, colon, gall bladder and bowel. For best results, stay on the juice portion of the diet for an additional 4 to 5 days. Continue to drink water and herbal tea as well.
Raw Foods
Add raw foods to your diet including vegetables and fruits after the fasting and juicing period is complete. Use a food processor to make the foods into a paste. Be sure to add psyllium husk to the paste; this will help increase colon and bowel movement. The husks will also help the liver to more easily process nutrients found in the foods. Be sure vegetables and fruits are washed thoroughly to remove any chemical accumulation.
Eat a wide variety of vegetables and fruits over a 3 to 4 day period. (Consume at least 6 to 8 fruits and vegetable daily to encourage bowel movements and elimination.) Continue to drink water, teas and juices to aid in digestion.
Probiotic
Add foods that contain probiotics, like yogurt, for example. As you continue to eat vegetables 6 to 8 times per day, add yogurt and a 4-ounce glass of milk to every meal. Probiotics help the intestines maintain a healthy bacterial growth, and assist the body in maintaining a good balance of healthy bacteria. Continue to drink water, herbal teas and juice throughout the day to complete the cleansing.
Wrap Up
After you have been on the cleansing program for two weeks, gradually add carbohydrates, such as brown rice, oatmeal, beans and cooked vegetables, back into your diet to encourage continued healthy bowel movement. To normalize your eating patterns, slowly add heavier protein foods, including meat, until you are eating at your normal daily level. Also, continue to drink recommended herbal teas and water to keep the body systems clean and aid in sustained, optimal elimination.
