How to Cleanse the Liver at Home

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. By synthesizing proteins and bile necessary to aid digestion, metabolizing and storing fats and carbohydrates, and secreting harmful byproducts of digestion and toxins such as drugs and alcohol, the liver ensures a healthy immune system, provides energy and balances hormones. Damage to the liver can result in hepatitis, fatty liver, cancer and ultimately, liver failure and death. Alcoholism is not the only cause, as a poor diet or overeating can stress the liver. According to David Pieribone of the website The Body, "unlike other organs in the body, the liver can't let you know when it is in trouble, or often not until it is too late." Perform a liver cleanse in the comfort of your own home a couple of times a year to rid yourself of fatigue, extra weight and even allergies, and to improve your body's overall performance, according to the website Healing Daily.

Instructions

    1

Mix the Epsom salts into the 3 cups of water (or juice). This makes four 3/4-cup servings. Refrigerate for better taste. Do not eat four hours before starting the cleanse. Avoid taking any medications, vitamins or fatty foods. Drink one serving in the afternoon.

    2

Drink the second serving two hours later.

    3

Squeeze the juice of the large grapefruit into a cup and remove the pulp. Mix with the olive oil and add Coca-cola here for flavor if desired. Shake this and drink two hours after the last Epsom salt serving, which should be before bedtime.

    4

Drink the third serving of the Epsom salt mixture upon waking up the next morning.

    5

Drink the last serving two hours later. Expect diarrhea and some nausea, and the presence of gallstones in the toilet, which appear like small round clumps green in color.
