Acid reflux is caused by an inflammation of the esophagus caused by excess stomach acids. This can create a burning feeling in the chest. Fortunately, acid reflux can be stopped by changing one's diet.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrate-heavy foods are great for the stomach and absorb much of the excess stomach acids. Breads and pastas are good foods to eat.
Fat
Fat takes longer to digest, causing the stomach to produce more stomach acids to destroy it. Especially avoid fast food.
Fruits
Some fruits have a high acid content, contributing to stomach acidity. But berries, melons, bananas, peaches and pears will not trigger acid reflux.
Drinks
Herbal tea and juices are the best drinks for acid reflux. Mineral water can help absorb some of the stomach acids, relieving acid reflux.
Spicy Foods
Spicy food is discouraged for those with acid reflux. But a study in 2009 showed that spicy food does not affect acid reflux and is safe to eat.
