Pregnancy is the time in a woman's life when nutrition is the most important, but it is also a time when it is hard to eat properly. Between morning sickness, cravings and aversions, getting the proper nutrients can be next to impossible. Juicing can be a great way to get all the nutrients you need.
Vegetable Recipes
The key to any vegetable juicing recipe is carrots. Carrots should be a part of every juice you make. They offer countless vitamins and nutrients and encourage digestive health. If you don't like raw carrots, juicing helps because other fruits and veggies can be mixed in to hide the taste of the carrots.
Get all of your veggies for the day in one cup by juicing tomato, cucumber, carrots, celery, spinach, red pepper, cabbage and green onion. Experiment with your juice recipe until you find a balance among the different vegetables that works for you.
Get your daily shot of carrot juice with a sweeter taste by adding apples. Carrot-apple juice is easier to take on days when you are feeling queasy and smells are upsetting you, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy.
If the texture of the drinks bothers you, try drinking through a straw. Or use a strainer to filter the juice, making it easier on an unsettled stomach.
Fruit Recipes
Apples are the basis for any fruit-drink recipe, just as carrots are for vegetable recipes. Apples give you a lot of juice for a small amount of fruit, and when you add other fruits, those tastes usually dominate. For example, if you use three apples and just a handful of strawberries, your juice will taste more like strawberry than apple.
Strawberry lemonade can be made with an apple juice base. Add in strawberries and a small amount of lemon. The apple juice will act as a natural sweetener and you will not need to add sugar to your lemonade.
Apple, pineapple and ginger make a refreshing juice. Ginger is known to calm queasy tummies, so this drink may be your favorite recipe during pregnancy. Juice one apple and a small chunk of ginger together. Then juice a cup of peeled pineapple and mix together.
Juice grapes and blueberries together to make a fabulous blueberry drink. If you feel that you are juicing a lot of blueberries and grapes for very little juice, put an apple in the juicer as well. It will not affect the taste much and will give you more liquid.
Smoothie Recipes
Smoothies can have an added bonus beyond all the benefits of fresh juices: yogurt. Yogurt is a fabulous food that helps encourage the growth of good bacteria in the stomach and aids in digestion as well.
Yogurt can be added to any of the fruit recipes you enjoy. Use nonfat plain or vanilla-flavored yogurt. Use your juice machine to make your favorite juice, then pour it in the blender. Add cup of yogurt and a handful of ice cubes, then blend well.
For a smoothie that rivals anything you can find at the mall, make fresh orange juice and strain out the pulp. Add ice cubes, yogurt, teaspoon of vanilla extract and a tablespoon of frozen orange juice concentrate. Blend well.
