Specific Juices to Drink When on a Diet

You are on a diet and are sick of drinking water. All you hear about is water, how much to drink each day and how it's so good for your body. OK ... water is good for your body, but other liquids are just as good. Juices are the "next big thing" to add to your diet and, yes, they contain water. From simple juices like apple to complex "antioxidants" like acai juice, there are a variety of juices that are perfect to drink on a diet. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Acai Juice

    Acai juice derives from the dark berry found in the Amazon rain forest. The juice is full of antioxidants that support the body's immune system and is said to give you energy and stamina. The juice is loaded with fiber as well to aid the digestive system and help lower bad cholesterol. Since the juice contains fiber, you may want to use it as a flush to clean out toxins in your body. Acai juice can be purchased at health food stores or on the Internet. Make sure the juice is made from 100 percent acai extract or a mixture of acai berries. Don't fall for acai beverages that are not 100 percent juice.

Vegetable Juices

    Vegetable juices are great to add to your diet. They are easy to make, inexpensive and contain vitamins and fiber. Carrot juice is high in vitamin A (carotene). Drink two glasses per day for best results. Don't peel the carrots, just scrub them well and blend into a juice or smoothie.

    The next vegetable to juice is celery. Juice the leaves and add to other juices as a spice. Since celery is high in sodium, only use a little in with other juices.

    Cucumber is another vegetable to juice. Peel before blending to remove the wax. Cucumber juice tastes a little like watermelon.

    Try juicing bean sprouts. The taste takes some time to get used to, but bean sprouts are loaded with minerals and chlorophyll (good for the liver, digestive tract, treating anemia, preventing liver cancer and controlling mold in the body and body odor).

    Cabbage juice can help with your digestive system. Cabbage juice can help ease some of the pain associated with colitis, spastic colon, indigestion, chronic constipation and certain forms of rectal bleeding.

    Finally, grab a pack of tomatoes. They are easy to juice and are great for your body. Don't juice green tomatoes, though.

Prune & Banana Juice

    Add prune and banana juice to your diet. Both juices are a great source of potassium. Foods that contain potassium have been scientifically proven to help prevent hypertension and stroke, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Prune juice can be purchased at grocery and health food stores, or you can buy prunes and juice them yourself. To juice bananas, just peel and blend into a smoothie or shake.

Wheat Grass Juice

    Wheat grass comes from the wheat plant and is rich in green chlorophyll, which is good for the liver and the digestive tract. Wheat grass juice is also loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids. You can buy wheat grass juice at health food stores.

Fruit Juice and Fortified Juices

    Finally, add fruit juices like apple, pear and grape to your diet. They are inexpensive, quick to blend and loaded with antioxidants. Make sure you buy fresh fruits and juice them at home for consumption immediately after juicing. If you do buy fruit juices already blended, buy fortified juices---fruit juice enhanced with nutrients that can provide extra health benefits. Fortified juices have extra vitamins like vitamin C for your immune system, minerals like calcium for your bones, cholesterol-lowering sterols and omega-3 fatty acids. These juices are great if you are not getting enough vitamins in your diet.
