The lemonade diet, or Master Cleanse, is a relatively popular way for people to lose weight or cleanse their digestive system. The lemonade diet consists of drinking a mixture of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper for ten days or more. You are not allowed to eat any food. In addition to drinking the lemonade, you should also drink laxative tea and do salt water flushes to help cleanse your colon. As you are not eating any food, you are able to flush out everything is in your colon.
Purified Water
The water that you use for the lemonade diet should be purified, distilled or spring water. Be sure that you do not use fluoridated water. Each glass of lemonade should use one cup of this water, but you can also make a big batch in a gallon jug to make things easier. Some people, however, find that the lemonade tastes better when you make it fresh.
Lemons
Use 2 tablespoons of lemon juice per serving when making your lemonade. Be sure to use real lemons, not the lemon juice that you can buy in a bottle or in a plastic lemon. You can get more lemon juice from your lemon if you use an electric juicer than if you try to squeeze it by hand. Try squeezing the juice from about four lemons in the morning and storing the juice in the refrigerator. This makes it easier to make your lemonade throughout the day.
Maple Syrup
You should use 2 tablespoons of Grade B maple syrup. This should be real maple syrup, not pancake syrup, which just has a maple flavoring. It can be difficult to find Grade B syrup in the grocery store, so you may want to try a health food store or buying it online. If you are overweight and want to cut out some sugar, you can use less maple syrup in your lemonade.
Cayenne Pepper
The heat of the cayenne pepper breaks up mucus, which is an essential part of the diet. Use one-tenth of a teaspoon or more in your lemonade. If you find this too spicy, use a bit less and work your way up.
Salt Water
The salt water flush is an essential part of the cleansing diet. To make it yourself, mix 2 tablespoons of uniodized sea salt with a quart of lukewarm water. Since you drink this in the morning, you may want to prepare it the night before so it is prepared.
Laxative Tea
Laxative tea can also help to get things moving. You can purchase any type of laxative tea you can find, so choose one that suits your taste. Laxative teas typically take 12 hours to work, so drink this tea at night.
