Fruits that are low to medium in sugar are ideal for low carbohydrate diet juices. Because all fruits contain some sugar, it is best to choose fruits that are the lowest in sugar. Fruits that are lowest in sugar include lemon or lime (when eaten in small amounts), rhubarb, raspberries black berries and cranberries.
Berry Juice Blend
Start your morning with a berry or tropical juice blend. Wash and peel all fruits with a rind such as oranges, limes, lemons, watermelons and cantaloupe. Berries like blackberries, strawberries and raspberries as well as apples and strawberries should not be peeled. For a berry juice option, combine 1 cup of chopped strawberries, cup of blueberries, blackberries and cup raspberries in a blender with 1 cup of papaya or grapefruit juice. Add ice and blend until smooth. To complement the mixed berry flavor, add a small amount of lime or a pinch of mint.
Tropical Juice Blend
Enjoy a tropical juice blend as a mid-morning snack or lunch option. Blend 1 cup of chopped pineapple, cup of chopped papaya, 1/2 cup of chopped mango, cup of tea (many teas contain zero carbohydrates) and crushed ice. A juicer can also be used; you can add cup of tea (this option is used to create a smoother consistency) to a glass once the fruits are blended in the juicer. Top with ice and a slice of lime.
Pineapple Juice and Apple Juice
Drink apple juice or pineapple juice with meals. Apple juice is low to medium in sugar and is a great low-carbohydrate option. You can purchase apple juice from a local grocer or make your own using a juicer; a blender cannot juice cut apples. When using a juicer, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Generally, you will need to add 7 to 10 sliced apples for a medium to large glass of juice. The taste may be bitter, but resist adding sugar, as it will increase the carbohydrate value of the juice.
Pineapple juice can also be made using a juicer. Slice or chop 1 large pineapple and add to a commercial juicer. Because pineapples are naturally sweet and high in water content, pineapple juice can be consumed without added sweeteners, which are high in carbohydrates, or other ingredients to create a smoother texture and consistency.
Watermelon Drink
Make a watermelon drink to complement dinner options. Because watermelon juice can be added to iced water, it is a great light drink option for large meals. Cut several large pieces of watermelon and add to 8 ounces of iced or cold water. Blend for 10 seconds and serve with a low carbohydrate meal. The taste is refreshing, lightly sweet and crisp.
