Apple Cleansing Diet

Apple Cleansing Diet

When dieters are looking for an edge to jumpstart their diets, some have found that a two-day fast is the most effective method. By skipping meals and consuming juices, these dieters increase their metabolism for more effective weight loss. But for diabetic and borderline diabetics, a juice fast is not a healthy option for beginning a diet. A healthier flush option is an apple cleanse.

Definition

The principle behind a cleanse presupposes that the human body stores toxins in the fat cells. During a fast, your body relies on these fat stores for energy. As the fat is consumed, the toxins are released into the blood and then flushed from the system. During a fast and cleanse, a person consumes only food and juice. However in an apple cleanse, a person also eats apples of any variety whenever they feel hunger pains.

Apples

Proponents of an apple cleanse and fast say that during the course of the cleanse the body is fooled into believing that it is fasting. This causes the body to dump additional toxins held by the liver, kidneys and other internal organs into the blood as well. Apples contain fiber, pectin and malic acid. Naturopathic physicians believe that the malic acid is good for removing heavy metal toxins such as aluminum from your body. Pectin also helps the body purge heavy metals. In addition, it helps remove bile acids from the colon and lower cholesterol.

Method

An apple cleanse can be done for two to three days. Although proponents say that cleanses can be done for as long as a person wishes, traditional physicians do not advocate limiting your diet for long periods of time, as the lack of nutrients can cause long term health disorders. To follow the apple cleanse, stop taking vitamins, supplements or drugs. Drink filtered water and eat an organic apple whenever you feel hunger pains. If you desire, you can have a cleansing tea made with nettle or goldenseal. As toxins are purged from your body, you may experience a headache and muscle aches. Soaking in Epsom salts will help leech toxins from the skin and ease muscle soreness.
