Diabetes Type Two & Quick Weight Loss Plan

Weight loss is a way to manage type II diabetes and can even control the condition in some patients. Weight loss of even a few pounds can help to decrease your blood glucose levels and treat the condition without medication. A good weight loss plan should be well balanced and provide all the nutrition that your body needs.

Diet

    Plan to lose one or two pounds per week for the quickest rate that is healthy. A diet that promotes weight loss at a greater rate may not be healthy and weight loss may be difficult to maintain. Cut 500 calories from the total amount of calories required to maintain your current weight to lose one pound per week.

    The well balanced diet to manage type II diabetes and lose weight should include healthy sources of protein. Choose lean meat, chicken and fish for your healthy diet. Thirty percent of your calories should come from protein.

    Carbohydrates turn into glucose in the body and this is used for energy. Include carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables for forty percent of your calories. Complex carbohydrates such as vegetables are turned into glucose at a much slower rate than simple carbs and refined sugars.

    Include fat in your diet even when you are trying to lose weight. A healthy diet requires fat. Choose good fats like olive oil and nuts. Thirty percent of your total calories should come from healthy sources of fat. Avoid trans fats and keep red meat limited to once or twice a week to avoid saturated fats.

Exercise

    Plan to exercise for 30 a day at least five days a week. This can lower your blood sugar by using the glucose for energy. Thirty minutes a day will also help you to lose weight. The calories that you burn with exercise are added to the calories cut from your diet to lose one or two pounds a week.

    Start slow with your exercise program to avoid injury. Break up your exercise sessions if you cannot complete thirty minutes. Add a few minutes to your exercise session every day and eventually you will reach the thirty minute goal.

Lifestyle Changes

    Managing type II diabetes and losing weight requires you to make a commitment to your new lifestyle. Plan your meals ahead of time to make life simpler in the beginning. Keep junk food out of the house to avoid temptation and make an effort to include more physical activity in your day. When planning your meals, make sure that you include healthy snacks. Healthy snacking can help you to stay on track and stick to your weight loss plan.
