Weight Loss Supplements That Work Fast

According to American Sports Data, a study in 2004 revealed that 49 percent of Americans have tried at some point to lose at least five pounds and only 20 percent of those people found significant success. With this in mind, there is no wonder that the weight-loss industry is booming and people are always looking for a way to lose weight fast. Some supplements on the market have become favorites of people who are looking to do just that.

Bitter Orange

Bitter orange is a diet supplement that contains synephrine and octopamine, chemicals that are similar to the ephedrine in ephedra. It is touted as the "new ephedra" since ephedra was taken off the shelves because of its health risks. Unfortunately bitter orange has similar health risks, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The active ingredient synephrine is known to increase energy expenditure and decrease food intake by reducing gastric motility. However, these chemicals can also cause high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.

Green Tea Extract

Green tea extract has become a popular dietary supplement because of its ability to help burn fat without side effects. It has been used for various purposes for generations in China and is readily available worldwide now. Green tea works as a fat burner and metabolism booster without increasing the heart rate, and it is thought to help prevent heart disease, cancer and liver problems.

Acai Berry

In recent years acai berry products have become popular for their many supposed uses. The product, usually sold in a juice or powdered form, comes from the acai palm tree and is said to increase energy levels, be a powerful antioxidant and help with quick weight loss. According to ABC News, doctors have said acai is healthy but may not be any better than eating any other healthy food. Some testimonials claim that acai has worked to help them drop 30 pounds in less than a month.

Considerations

According to WebMD, weight-loss supplements are not a cure-all, and best results will likely be obtained by a combination of healthy diet and exercise. While these and other supplements can certainly aid in the speed of weight loss, none have been shown to exceed the proven track record of aerobic exercise.
