Vegetarian Ornish Diet

Vegetarian Ornish Diet

The vegetarian Ornish diet is a lifestyle plan devised by Dr. Dean Ornish. This diet is designed to help you reach and maintain an ideal weight, as well as optimum heart health.

Diet

This diet recommends eating as many fruits, vegetables, grains and beans as you want. Nonfat dairy products should be eaten in moderation and meats, oils, sugars and full-fat dairy products should be eliminated.

Commercial Foods

Any commercially prepared foods included in this diet should have 2 grams of fat or less. If sugar is one of the main ingredients in the dish, it should be avoided completely.

Fat

By following the diet's guidelines, you should naturally achieve a diet with less than 10 percent of your daily calories coming from fat.

Exercise

Ornish's plan also recommends that you exercise for 30 minutes or more each day, or at least one hour, three times a week. In addition, you should actively participate in some type of stress management, such as yoga or meditation.
